The trend that glorifies the elegance of the 1940s is with no doubt one of the most inspiring leit motif of the upcopming season. Even the brand Marc Jacobs younger sister – Marc by Marc Jacobs – has fallen for the discrete and sophisticated style.
The colors that play the main part in this fall-winter collection are warm and actually make us think about fall – there’s gold, and mustard yellow, reddish brown, and deep plum purple. Black is also present – especially in the evening line. The cuts refer directly to the esthetic of the 40s – for example, the shirt are tied with pussy cat bows, the skirts have a very high waist and a super-fashionable midi length. As for thje mens’ silhouette’s, you can see Oxford-style inspiration – with baggy pants, tantern prints, tweed and trench coats tied in the waist for the start. At the same time, a slight of modernity is visible in the shoes – Converse-like trainers and boots with fur bring in some contemporary look.
It’s very interesting, though, this turn towards all this fashion that we’ve already seen. It seems as if the designers realized how rich and inspiring is the fashion’s past. Critics often highlight the crucial influence of the old school fashion on what is going on with style at the moment. They agree, that this kind of turn is actually necessary once in a while. Thanks to those turns we realize who we are and who we can be – and along the way we might discover somenthing completely new.
