Black is back! The color gains it’s hegemony in menswear, pushing out the grey palette, so popular the last fall-winter season.
The reason of this sudden change is quite obvious – both clients and designers may have felt fed up with the grey tone… What’s more, this season we turn towards the classic, timeless elegance, in which black play the big part. We cannot also deny the presence of intensive colors in menswear – and it is black, which is capable of highlighting its intensity and power.
We wear black in a total look (Gucci, Versace, Jean-Paul Gaultier) or in black-color combo’s (Jil Sander, Etro, Bottega Veneta, Burberry). If we prefer the head-to-toe look, we should consider playing with the textures and materials. For example, sweaters made from two different kinds of wool, or coats with leather filigree (Burberry, Versace, Etro). The catwalks were also taken by smoking jackets – attention! – made from heavy, soft velvet, which with satin lapel make an outstanding view (Ermeneglido Zegna). Both evening and day jackets are embellished with geometric forms or prints.
Black in a combination with bright colors – mainly saphran orange, greens and blues – does not give the same possibilities as the total look. This kind of look is strong enough to remian without any particular form, so the cuts are very simple, slightly oversized.
