Espadrilles didn't have neither the high heels nor high notes in the world of fashion since the talented Yves Saint Laurent had met another creative artist, Isabel Castañer. The meeting took place in 1960 during the trade market in Paris. Isabel had been the owner of small industry, which's produced espadrilles since 1776 for the villagers. In 60's the industry was however on the edge of bunkruptcy
Laurent offered miss Castañer creating a new quality - high heeled espadrilles. This order had changed the history of both Yves Saint Laurent projects and the Castañer business. It echoed of course highly in the market and the shoes became a legend among fashionable women.
Nowadays world famous designers such as Donna Karan, Louis Vuitton and Yves Saint Laurent still collaborated with the Spanish Castañer house.
